Vintage Doomsday Deck List Analysis for 2020.11.28-29

This week we didn't see a Doomsday list in the League Data. There are still five lists to go over. We have one list from Saturday's Challenge and four from Sunday's.

We have two interesting choices this week:

  • MaxMagicer did not play Necropotence.
  • SingPanMan chose to splash Red for four copies of Pyroblast split between the main and side.

Necropotence is often sided out against aggro matchups. Does the deck need it? Its power is undeniable, and likely more useful in a world with Hullbreacher, but "kill your darlings". I'm not surprised to see Treasure Cruise in their list.
All the Hullbreacher talk explains SingPanMan splashing Red for Pyroblasts. (Although decks built around it did not seem to do that well.) Cutting Cling to Dust and a Flusterstorm makes sense for this swap.

One more interesting difference, which I thought could be a mistake, is Sleight of Hand in ecobaronen's list. I reached out to him and this is what he said.

Definitely an interesting bit of tech for these match-ups that I am curious to try myself. Acting almost as a fifth Preordain isn't a bad deal either.

Nothing too different here compared to last week. SingPanMan is still trying two copies of Opposition Agent. I have to say in my own testing I haven't found a time where it's been great. Usually it eats a counter (as well as one of our Dark Rituals). It slows down the opponent's mana base while not helping us resolve Doomsday. That all said, it must be a hoot to play in the mirror. Not to mention forcing the opponent to use one of their precious counters is not exactly a bad thing.

The Vintage Showcase Challenge is this week, so it'll be interesting to see how we place here. I am expecting Hullbreacher to be on the downswing. Non-Dredge Bazaar decks would be my guess for the most played. Tuned Xerox lists featuring a Hullbreacher or two and no wheels would be my second guess.

Best of luck to all you Doomsdayers playing!
